RiverCity SafeSteps Coalition

United for Prevention. Empowering Youth. Strengthening San Antonio

The RiverCity SafeSteps Coalition was formed in response to the urgent need to address rising rates of youth substance use in some of San Antonio’s most economically challenged neighborhoods. Grounded in the belief that prevention is most effective when driven by the community itself, our coalition brings together diverse partners including parents, youth leaders, schools, faith-based organizations, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and local nonprofits to build a united front for youth wellness.

Serving across San Antonio’s East, West, and South Sides, we work to reduce substance use risk factors by addressing the root causes: poverty, trauma, lack of access to support services, and community disconnection. In neighborhoods where the median income is far below city and national averages, and where youth face disproportionate exposure to adverse experiences, our coalition exists to ensure they are surrounded by protective factors and empowered to thrive.

We engage youth voices directly, educate families, support evidence-based prevention programs, and promote equity-focused policy change. Every step we take is guided by a shared mission: to create a safer, healthier, and drug-free future for every young person in San Antonio.
